Mechanical and Automatic Movements
A mechanical watch stores energy in a mainspring and releases it through a regulated system of gears and an escapement. A manually wound movement requires the wearer to wind the crown periodically, while an automatic movement adds a rotor that winds the mainspring as the watch moves on the wrist.
Movement architecture also affects thickness, crown position and the placement of complications. This is one reason two watches with similar dials can have noticeably different case profiles.
What Is a Chronograph
A chronograph is essentially a stopwatch integrated into a wristwatch. Pushers are normally used to start, stop and reset an additional timing hand.
Models such as the Rolex Daytona, Omega Speedmaster and TAG Heuer Carrera have made chronographs some of the most recognisable sports watches in the world.

Case Size Is Only Part of the Story
A 40mm watch does not always wear like another 40mm watch. Lug length, thickness, bezel width, dial opening and bracelet design all influence perceived size.

Bracelets and Straps
